Full-Time Criminal Defense Investigator

About the Role:
This is not a desk job. You’ll conduct interviews, chase down records, build timelines, write memos, and support attorneys in criminal and civil litigation across Vermont. You’ll work closely with our senior team and receive in-depth training in both investigative and mitigation techniques.
  • Strong writing and communication skills
  • Critical thinking and attention to detail
  • Comfort working with people in high-stress situations
  • Ability to work independently, ask questions, and follow through
  • A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Prior investigative, legal, or journalism experience is a plus — but not required

Legal & Investigative Internship

What You’ll Do:
  • Conduct public records research
  • Draft memos and case timelines
  • Organize digital files and evidence
  • Support investigations in real cases alongside experienced mentors
  • Law students, paralegals, pre-law undergrads, or recent grads
  • Students interested in criminal justice, civil rights, journalism, or law
  • Interns seeking hands-on exposure to real legal work
  • Interview techniques and evidence gathering
  • Public records systems and FOIA processes
  • Legal storytelling and memo writing
  • Working with attorneys, experts, and clients
